Barn in Moonlight

This small red barn is located in Central Virginia quite near the Bllue Ridge Mountains.  Though it doesn't appear to be in use at this time it does make a great subject for photographs and paintings.  This palette knife painting is 9x12 in size and is available directly from the artist.  Contact at pwhitacre@att.net.  This painting has been sold.

Barn Owl Portrait

Owls have always fascinated me and many other people as well.  as dark, staring eyes and the ability to seemingly turn their heads completely around make them a creature we admire.  But their hunting skills are perhaps more amazing than anything else.  Being able to photograph them is not easy due to their nocturnal habits, but wildlife refuges that take care of injured birds and mammals make it possible to get up close and personal with many hard to find  animals.  This 6x6 inch palette knife painting in oil on canvas is available directly from the artist.  Contact at pwhitacre@att.net or 865-932-6729.  Enjoy!

Blue and Gray

Making photographs look more impressionistic can be accomplished by using a piece of shower glass (plastic) in front of the subject.  Photographing flowers this way is a pleasure, if it is not a windy day!  This palette knife painting is based on a photo taken in just this manner and this technique works well in this style of painting.  I have not yet decided whether I like this style but thought I would put it out for comments from viewers.  It is available directly from the artist and comments are welcome at pwhitacre@att.net,  Enjoy.

Two White Hibiscus

While living in Florida, I had the pleasure of photographing many of the beautiful tropical flowers abundant in that state.  These two white hibiscus so close together made a perfect subject for photography and also for painting.  The first painting was 9x12 and it turned out so well that I chose to paint a second one this time 20x20.  Both are gorgeous and are for sale.  The 9x12 is priced at $135.  The much larger painting is priced at $200.  Should you be interested please contact me via e-mail at pwhitacre@att.net or by phone at 865-932-6729.  You may also view other paintings at my website....www.PegWhitacre.com.  Enjoy the view!

Yaquina Head Lighthouse

Yaquina Head Lighthouse is located on the Pacific Coast at Newport, Oregon.  It is truly one of the loveliest lighthouses in the country and is often visited by photogrpahers, artists and lighthouse buffs from all over the world.  It sits on a rocky outcropping and commands a dramatic view of the Pacific Ocean. Completed in 1873 the light is in excellent condition and has needed little repair work for over 100 years. The grounds are open to the public but the light itself can only be visited by special arrangement with the Yaquina Bay Coast Guard.  No matter, it is a breathtaking beauty not to be missed.  This painting is oil on canvas and measures 17"x141/2" and is available directly from the artist at $185.  Questions and comments are always welcome at pwhitacre@att.net or by phone at 865-932-6729.  Other paintings may be viewed at my website...www.pegwhitacre.com.  Enjoy your visit!

Chapel in the Woods

In the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is a valley called Cades Cove.  In the 19th century this was an active farming community inhabited by sturdy people who built their cabins and worked their land for many years.  Surrounded by mountains,  it was isolated from much of the outside world.  Today tourists are frequent visitors to the valley where they can drive a one way loop road and walk into the past as they visit the remaining houses, barns and churches.  This palette knife painting is based on one of those small wooden churches in the valley.
